Sarah Hyland Interview On the Set of 'Vampire Academy'
Same interview conducted by fangirlishness and Page to Premiere
What was the casting process like for VA?
I’d gotten the script and I thought this was really cool and it’s a vampire film, and the character Natalie is pretty awesome with the way things turn out for her. So I Skyped with the casting director, and we put myself on tape through Skype and I thought this was weird because of the noise and the quality was just not good at all. So then Mark wanted to Skype with me, he was in London and I was filming ‘Bonnie & Clyde’, and I had someone from production come and help me set up a camera and she read with me while Mark observed and that was it. I didn’t read with anybody and there was no audition in person.
For the few people in the world who don’t know about Vampire Academy could you explain how your character fits into it?
My character is Natalie Dashkov, she is Victor Dashkov’s looney geeky crazy gossip loving daughter, so when Lissa and Rose escaped the Academy and are brought back they befriend her because they want to stay off the social network and clearly Natalie is not a part of that. So they befriend her, and that’s all I can really say.
What’s the scene that you’ve read in the book that you’re most excited to film?
I’ve already filmed the scenes that I was most looking forward to filming, but I can’t talk about that I’m sorry.
Your character sounds a lot different from what you’re usually playing, but just how are they different?
Natalie is very spastic, and geeky and just socially awkward and clearly Hayley (Modern Family) is none of those things. It was fun I found a lot of things to bring to Hayley, certain twitches that she has and just small character things that I don’t think anyone will notice but I had such a fun time with a character that Richelle has brilliantly thought up.

Hypable's Vampire Academy Set Visit Report + Recap from Fangirlishness
'Vampire Academy' set visit report - How mean can vampire girls be?
Earlier this year, Hypable visited the set of Vampire Academy for a behind the scenes look at the eagerly anticipated young adult novel-turned-movie arriving in 2014. This was our opportunity to speak to the cast and crew and find out for ourselves just how progress was going on one of our absolute favorite fandoms.
The cast were filming for a total of 8 weeks (in roughly 20 different locations), and we caught up with them on week 6 during an on-location set in the heart of London. The scenic University College London (UCL) provides the backdrop for St. Vladimir’s Academy and we were lucky enough to witness several scenes being filmed within this stunning atmosphere.
Although rarely illustrative when watching a movie for the first time, the filming process is repetitive and arduous; each scene is shot, and re-shot, and re-re-shot, then again in different camera angles. The mark of good filmmaking is attention to detail and the most striking impression we were left with after departing the set was the sheer meticulousness of every scene. The director, Mark Waters (Mean Girls), quite clearly has a very precise vision in bringing the story to life and that is to remain as loyal to Richelle Mead’s world as much as possible.
The Vampire Academy fandom is large, vibrant, enthusiastic and protective of the stories that they have taken to heart; the cast and crew seem all too aware of this and delivering a movie that above all else, is meaningful to the fandom community seems to be the overarching ambition of the team. This is an admirable endeavour and certainly left us feeling reassured.

Richelle Mead Shares Exclusive Pics from ‘Vampire Academy’ Set with Yahoo! Movies
"The cast was so friendly and outgoing, and within 15 minutes of me arriving, nearly all of them stopped by to say hello and introduce themselves," Mead said as she described the photos from her visit which she shared with Yahoo! Movies exclusively. "The picture of me with Zoey and Cameron [Monaghan] was taken on the first day of my set visit. They were filming in a university lecture hall, and I got to take a seat right there with the students."
"[This] photo was taken on the last day of my two-day visit," she recalled. "I didn't actually believe they'd have a chair for me since my visit was so short, but they did! It took a fair amount of searching for it (and all the other cast chairs) because the crew moved around filming that day and kept taking the chairs with them," she explained. "Finding this reward at the end of our 'scavenger hunt' was definitely worth it though."

Danila Kozlovsky Talks 'Vampire Academy' in New Russian Video Interview with OTR-Online Channel
Full video interview in Russian can be found HERE
Translation where he talks about Vampire Academy:
Correspondent: But nevertheless you come close to this goal this year, starring in the Hollywood story “Vampire Academy”
Danila: It was a very interesting experience I can honestly say that I dreamed of it and which was sought, i made certain steps. And I am very glad that at some point it happened, and this story took place, this adaptation of the books by Richelle Mead, fiction fantasy. This is a very interesting story and interesting role of a half-vampire, half-human, a dhampir. He has Russian roots, but for a very long time he’s been living in America. He has worked in the Academy and speaks with a slight accent, which makes him even more attractive in the eyes of the female heroine. The love relationship flares up between them, but it is impossible, because he is a teacher and she is a young student. It was an amazing experience with a super talented team of cinematographers, with director Mark Waters, producers, operators, and a super talented team of actors. A very young team. The shooting period lasted for about three months since the preparation started. The premiere will be on February 14th.

Richelle Mead Weighs in on Vampire Academy Film with CBS News
"Vampire Academy" author Richelle Mead weighs in on film, possible sequels
Richelle Mead is enjoying watching the fruits of her labor play out in movie form.
The author behind the best-selling young adult series "Vampire Academy" is happy with how director Mark Waters is reimaging her 2007 novel for the big screen. The film, which stars Zoey Deutch, Sarah Hyland, Olga Kurylenko, Joely Richardson and Gabriel Byrne, follows Rose Hathaway (Deutch), 17-year old half-vampire who's training to be a bodyguard for living vampires. Her life gets complicated as she soon realizes the dangers her new role involves.
"Everything I've seen I thought was really well done," Mead told CBSNews.com about the film, which lands in theaters on Feb. 14, 2014. "The books are very hard to stick into any one genre. They've got these humorous moments. Then they've got these serious moments. It's just such a mix and I love that they capture that and didn't go in all one direction. They didn't make it so melodramatic with no jokes. On the other hand, they didn't suddenly make it a farce either. They got what I was trying to do, which is live is a juxtaposition of all these different things, so why not make a story about life. I think they really got the tone well."

5 NEW STILLS from Entertainment Weekly + 2 Additional Movie Stills!
"This is an interesting one because there's a running gag in the movie where Rose tries to surprise attack Dimitri, and this is the first time she tries to do it,'' previews Waters. ''She says, 'I should have had you!' And he says, 'Well, keep it up. Keep trying to attack. It's good training for both of us.' But the tension of this moment is nice because after he tackles her and pins her down, they realize, 'Wait a second. I'm still holding you down. And we're still really close to each other.' It's a bit of an uncomfortable, awkward, romantic moment when they realize that they're this close to each other and they have to kind of quickly disengage.''

NEW Picture of the Vampire Academy Cast + New Article from People Magazine

Article from People Magazine:
It's hard enough being a teenager – just imagine being a teenage vampire.
Vampire Academy, the film based on Richelle Mead's best-selling novels, follows Rose Hathaway and her best friend Lissa Dragomir, students at St. Vladimir's Academy in Montana. But these aren't your run-of-the-mill, glittering-in-the-sun, garlic-and-silver-fearing vampires.
There's the Moroi, mortal vampires with magical abilities who drink blood from human volunteers and don't kill anyone, and the Strigoi, immortal vampires who prey on Moroi and humans and murder in their quest for blood. And it's up to a few teenagers to keep the peace between the two.
The film, which stars Ringer's Zoey Deutch (the daughter of actress Lea Thompson and director Howard Deutch) as Rose, Lucy Fry as Lissa and Modern Family's Sarah Hyland as Natalie, doesn't hit theaters until Valentine's Day, but Mead is already speaking out about the cast.

"Zoey looks so much like the Rose in my head, it's almost eerie," Mead exclusively tells PEOPLE. "Zoey not only looks the part of Rose, she lives it. She's got that same energy and powerful presence that Rose has – not to mention a similar sense of humor! When she walks into the room, everyone knows it."

Teen Interviews Zoey Deutch about Vampire Academy, Love and Halloween!
EXCLUSIVE: Zoey Deutch Talks ‘Vampire Academy,’ Love and Halloween
It’s not every day that you get to talk to the young woman who’s playing the heroine in one of your fave YA book-to-movie adaptations. But hey, it happened to me as I got to chat with the beautiful Zoey Deutch, who plays lead Rose in Vampire Academy.
Let me preface the Q&A by saying that she is, perhaps, one of the sweetest young acts — if not THE sweetest — I’ve had the chance to interview. And funny, too. (In fact, we should probably be best friends.) She even appreciates the term I only recently learned from @BloodIsFamily, fang-girl. “Fang-girls! I’ve never noticed that; that’s hilarious. That’s so clever. I’m going to start using that,” she says.
Okay, now for the part you’ve all been waiting for. You’ve read our interviews with Dan Waters and Richelle Mead. Now find out what Zoey had to say about Vampire Academy, as well as Comic Con, her co-stars, love and even Halloween!
