Richelle Mead posts a scene from Vampire Academy in Dimitri's point of view!

Author of "Vampire Academy" Richelle Mead decided to give us a scene from the first book in Dimitri's point of view for his victory in the YA Crush Tournament. Read which scene it was and in Dimitri's own words!

The Meeting
A scene from the first book of the Vampire Academy series, as told from Dimitri's point of view

“Dimitri!”

I turned instantly at the sound of my name, shooting a glare at the guardian approaching in the darkness.  What was he thinking?  Everyone out here tonight knew how essential secrecy was.  It didn’t matter that he was young and simply excited about his first big mission.  We had no room for errors, not when this was the only break we’d had in over a year.  Realizing his mistake, he grew apologetic, though not nearly enough.

“Sorry.” He dropped his voice to a stage whisper and tapped his ear.  “Headset’s not working.  We checked the house, and they’re already gone.  They must have had warning, maybe a perimeter of spies on the streets.”  As his excitement returned, the young guardian—Laurence—began speaking rapidly.  “I was thinking about it.  They probably have a whole network of people working with them!  It makes sense, right?  How else have they managed to stay ahead of us for so long?  There’s no telling how deep this conspiracy goes!  We might be facing an army tonight!”

Short interview from Richelle Mead about the Official VA Motion Poster

'Vampire Academy' movie motion poster: What does it mean?
Fans finally have a little something to sink their teeth into, a new motion poster to promote next year’s Vampire Academy movie. But the poster takes an untraditional twist on typical movie promotional art by using a cryptic animation element.
“The poster’s brilliant. That bold, striking art will grab newcomers’ attention, but is also laced with secrets and symbols that those who know the story will immediately recognize. I love that it’s so clean and simple at first glance but still gives a nod to all the complexities built into the book,” author Richelle Mead told EW in an exclusive statement.
The six-book series tells the story of half human-half vampire Rose Hathaway, who trains at the St. Vladimir’s Academy boarding school to become a guardian protector of her best friend, Moroi Princess Vasilisa Dragomir. The vampire royal possesses a special trait that the Strigoi, the evil undead vampires, hunt after in the hopes of turning the princess into one of their own kind. Rose and Lissa become tangled in a web of forbidden romances, a cruel Academy social scene, and a fight against the world’s most threatening bloodsuckers.
Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, which just wrapped up filming, will debut February 2014. Brothers Mark and Dan Waters wrote and directed the film. Mark penned Batman Returns (1992), and Dan is the director behind teen favorites such as Mean Girls and Freaky Friday. “There are these big, high-drama, and romance moments in the Vampire Academy series, for sure. But there’s also a dark, snarky tone as well to offset the melodrama. And those guys are masters at that,” Mead told EW.

Q&A with Richelle Mead

Richelle Mead answers the top 13 questions sent by fans! The 30 minute chat with @VAOfficialMovie, run by The Weinstein Company, gives lots of info and insight into the development of the film!

Q: Were the movie actors and set close to what you imagined when you were writing Vampire Academy?
A: Yes! The actors were amazing match for what was in my head, and sets actually surpassed what I imagined. Beautiful.

Q: What do you think is the most important part in making a book to movie adaptation successful?
A: Most important is getting to the heart of what the author intended, both with characters and story. Make no mistake: changes must happen. But... If you've got the key parts of the plot and really nail the characters' personalities (which they have), you're in great shape.

Q: How does it feel to have your characters come to life? Did you ever see this happening?
A: It's amazing! I wish I could've watched every day of filming. Seeing the actors portray my characters reminded me of why I (and readers) love them. Authors hope this happens, but no one can ever count on it.

Q: Are you nervous/excited to see your brainchild on the big screen?
A: Excited. Everything they've done on the film is so excellent that I'm not worried. It's going to be great.

Q: What scene are you looking forward to seeing the most on screen?
A: My old answer was the ending. But after seeing a few clips while visiting the set, I can say now I'm most excited to see Rose and Dimitri's first meeting. It blew my mind. It'll blow yours.

Sami Gayle photoshoot for Interview magazine

Matthew Brookes shoots actress Sami Gayle for Interview

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Matthew Brookes spends a day in London with the 17 year old star of Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, capturing Sami Gayle in a moment of 1920's caberet-inspired glamour.

(Article)
"I have never gotten a B in my life," swears Sami Gayle. "I would honestly be mortified if I got a B. I'm so academically driven." In fact, the 17-year-old actress almost turned down a role in director Mark Waters's adaptation of Richelle Mead's popular teen novel, Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, because filming of the movie in London clashed with her AP human geography exam.  Luckily, Gayle was able to find a solution, enabling her to play vampire Mia Rinaldi and take the exam in the classroom of a local school. "I'm digging the schools in London," she says. "So much greenery." It's impressive that Gayle, who also stars in the hit New York cop show Blue Bloods, still finds the time to study at all. Last May, she arrived on the set of Vampire Academy straight from the Cannes red carpet, where another of her films, The Congress, premiered. The part live-action, part animation movie, in which Gayle plays the tomboyish daughter of Robin Wright's character, imagines a future where actors are scanned so that they can be replaced by computer-generated avatars. Not that Gayle actually believes CGI will ever displace humans in the movies. "There are certain qualities to a person that are inherent to being real," she says. "The Congress raises awareness about actors and their vulnerability. Actors are seen as celebrities, but they're just real people with families." Family is important to the Florida native. Gayle's dad is an attorney and her mother owned her own business before selling it to become her manager. Gayle faced her first family-versus-work dilemma at age 11, when she was offered what would have been her debut Broadway role in How the Grinch Stole Christmas on the same Thanksgiving weekend as her brother's bar mitzvah. Brother won out. But opportunities kept coming, and before she was a teenager, she had moved to New York to pursue acting full time. Director Tony Kaye soon cast her as the young prostitute who is befriended by a teacher played by Adrien Brody in the 2011 drama Detachment. Gayle, though, makes it clear that she chooses her roles for substance. "I was offered something rather large and I turned it down," she says. "I wanted to stay on a career path of the likes of Natalie Portman. I didn't want to be pigeonholed into a certain genre. I sort of believe that slow and steady wins the race."

ZOEY DEUTCH
With her long limbs and dark, striking features, it’s no wonder young actress Zoey Deutch has already landed a starring role, opposite Olga Kurylenko, as the wild and reckless Rose Hathaway, in 2014 fantasy film Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, directed by Mark Waters of Mean Girls. “Rose is a half human, half vampire...a dhampir,” the 19-year-old says from London, where she is currently training for the action-packed role. No stranger to fantasy, Deutch played the tough chick castaway in this winter’s Beautiful Creatures, with Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich. Who else is on her short list of people to work with? Besides her parents, the actress Lea Thompson and Pretty in Pink director Howard Deutch, there is Emma Stone, Kristen Wiig, and Ryan Gosling (“duuuhhhh,” she says). “But, y’know, I’ll cross that bridge if I hopefully ever get there.”
