*UDPATE: Full Transcript of Chat + Check out Zoey's Questions to Lucy below!
A: Yes!
Q: How do you think the VA movie will affect the recent perception of vampires in the media?
A: I think VA will make people see vampires as much more fun :)
Q: Was it hard trying to get into the role of Lissa? Meaning, trying to portray her emotion/ mental pain when she was struggling to understand what was going on with her?
A: I did a lot of preparation before we started filming so that I could get to that place. I trained with a physical theatre coach to feel how the depression sits in my body and to access it from there. As well as the power of spirit, i found that through physical exploration and discovering the different emotions and sensations that happen when I heal. It was quite an intensive process because the pain Lissa goes through when she heals is hard to comprehend.
Q: Lucy how hard it was to play the darkest scenes with Lissa's depression?
A: Yes, that was really hard sometimes. There were days where I had long dark scenes and found it hard to shake the anxiety off at the end of the day. But I had zoey there to cheer me up!
+ More fan questions below!
Q: Lucy which were the most challenging scenes you had to film? And did you feel like you had great connection and affinity with the character of Lissa?
A: I connected to Lissa from the first moment that I read the script. I fell in love with her and longed to give her the depth and life that I felt when I read her part. I connected to her sensitivity and her genuine care for other people and creatures. I felt that the way that manifested in her powers was beautiful.
A: I hadn't read them before I was cast, but as soon as I found out I read Vampire Academy at least 5 times
Q: What's your favourite line from the movie? and it doesn't have to be a line Lissa says!
A: poo good one
A: oo!
A: not poo
A: we added a new line for Dimitri during the reshoots last week
A: its at the start and its pretty funny but I'm not going to give that one away
Q: Lucy, you're not on social media much but do you have any idea how much your fans and VA fans love you?
A: thats so sweet, thank you for putting up with my computer illiteracy!!
Q: Did you learned any british slang or russian words?
A: I learnt a lot of British slang because I copied the way the british cast spoke everyday (I have an Australian accent in real life!)
Q: How much is the movie like the book? What parts were left out?
A: The movie is true to the book with the main plot points and characters, but we have cut out a couple of the dead animal threats… and the fine details. I tried as much as I could to keep Lissa's psychological journey as close to the book as possible because I love the way she transforms in the book. So the way Lissa grows in herself is the same in the movie but the plot points to get her there have been slightly changed to fit the movie genre
Q: What is your favorite scene to film in the movie?
A: The opening scene with Zoey is one of my favourites because it is really fun and playful, and shows their long history together, before the serious action cuts in!
Q: What is your favorite part about acting in the Vampire Academy movie, and do you think it stays true to the books as much as it can?
A: My favourite part about acting in the movie was the people, such a wonderful cast. All the actors stayed true to the characters of the book but there are a few new details and it is a little faster than the book. The movie doesn't delve into the physiological side of the bond as much- its there but the movie is about the action. Everything happens quickly with energy and humour.
Q: If you could play any character besides Lissa who would you choose?
A: Dimitri!
Q: Describe your relationship with Zoey in a few words? please?
A: Wonferful! fun, supportive, loving, strong. We know each other inside out after making VA together. She pretty much can read my mind in our human lives too.
Q: Lucy, Zoey is tweeting you Qs right now! haha what is your favorite set memory with her?
A: Really? where? lol I'm so bad with these computer things!
A: my favourite set memory with zoey… there are way too many to choose!
A: There was one scene in the church with me and zoey and dom and it was towards the end of the film when we had all become close again. It was lovely to do a peaceful connected scene after so many scenes full of angst and danger.
A: As in the characters had become close again. Zoey and Dom and I were always close!
Q: If you could choose between being a Moroi, Dhampir or Strigoi, what would you choose and why?
A: I love having the power of spirit. It is really hard to act the craziness that comes with it, but i think it is the coolest power in the world. So I'm going moroi.
Q: Do you enjoy Richelle Mead's twist on vampires?~! and also what is your favorite part about playing Lissa?~! Btw i love you!
A: I love the way Richelle has created this story with the three different vampire forms. I think its really wonderful
Q: What is it like, coming from Australia, and being cast for a major movie that already has such a loyal fan following? Was it daunting? - From a Fellow Aussie xx
A: Woo hi Australia! Yes, I put a lot of pressure on myself to play Lissa as true to the book as I could. But I think she is a little bit stronger in the film, she kind of gets a toughness during her struggle but you can't hear her inner dialogue like you can in the book, which makes her seem a bit stronger.
Q: I'm curious, How intimidating it is to play a role opposite Rose? Or was it a relief because of the close knit love they have? I imagine it's hard to share a spot light role in a movie.
A: for me it was a relief! I loved the way Rose was so strong and Ballsy. I could relax more because Rose always had it covered. And she was always looking out for me. It was perfect.
Q: Will the movie be as exciting as the books??
A: YES
A: Its super exciting. We've even added some things to make it more thrilling… but they don't take it off course from the book
Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced during the whole VA experience?
A: Green eye contacts! I had a mouldy world!
Q: How will you deal with the press in the next 6 or more years if Vampire Academy takes off? It would be a big change than what you're used to.
A: I have no idea. I am starting to do press now and I love talking about the film so I enjoy it. I could talk about the film all day :)
Q: Are the fangs you had to wear on set annoying?
A: I love the fangs!! They were so fun I wanted to wear them as much as I could. they are scarily realistic too
Q: What was the most emotional scene to film?
A: Probably getting tortured by victor..
Q: What was it like to be able to see a book come to life on set?
A: Amazing! Everything was as I imagined but even grander
Q: Lucy, are you happy? With his performance in Vampire Academy, with friendships that you earned through the film, fans who give unconditional support to you and the cast?
A: I couldn't be more thrilled to have met all these amazing people. I love the film and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do. I felt completely connected to LIssa the whole way through, (sometimes even too much on her psychotic days!) and I hope that everyone feels connected to her the way I did.
Q: What was it like working with Mark and Dan Waters?
A: They are both amazing people!!! I couldn't have wished for anything better than working with two such talented brothers on my first film. It was such a gift.
Q: The Philippines is about to be hit by a super typhoon (we're expecting it an a few hours) can you please give a short message to your Filipino fans? Thank you
A: HI Philippines! Hold on tight I am sending you all my Lissa healing powers and energy!
