Check out their interview with Sarah Hyland from last week HERE
Q: For the few people in the world who haven’t heard of Vampire Academy, could you introduce your character?
Lucy: Lissa is a vampire princess. She is one of the Moroi, which is a race of vampires, a living vampire. Her family is one of the 12 royal families. She became a princess when her entire family was killed in a car accident, so she is the last of this particular line of royals. She is a beautiful, loving, sensitive, girl. When her family passes away a lot of events happen which I can’t talk about. They kind of make her more different to the rest of the Moroi vampires.
Q: Does she feel like a bit of an outsider then, because she is different?
Lucy: Ya. She definitely finds it very hard to relate to everyone. She has gone through so much she finds that part of her is missing and it’s really difficult for her to connect to normality I guess.
Q: What attracted you to Lissa? What did you like about her so much that you thought you had to play her?
Lucy: When I read the script the first time, my initial reaction was that I loved it because of the friendship between Lissa and Rose and how that kind of got them through everything. The way that Lissa kind of relies on Rose to help her through all the things that she’s going through right now. I really think that is an important story to be told.
Q: How tough was the audition process? What did you have to go through to get there?
Lucy: It was a bit odd. I was backpacking through Europe and I had been there for a day and had my audition for Lissa. I went in and I did it with an American accent the first time. I got really great feedback in the room, I was really excited, and then I didn’t hear anything for two weeks. I was like oh no. Then I called my manager and he said, “Ya they are moving on now, they are just accepting self-tapes from all around the world.” So I decided to send in a self-tape and try it with an English accent. Then I sent in the self-tape and the next day I was sitting in a café and got a call that you have a test deal tomorrow. At the time I didn’t even know what a test deal was. The next day I went in and there were two other girls who look basically the same as me and I was like wow this is creepy. We went in and spent the whole day doing scenes and the day after that we went to a lunch with all the producers, the directors, and the writer and the casting director. Zoey and I were told we got the part. It was such a shock. I was not expecting that to happen.
