Full Transcript of Richelle Mead's Twitter Q&A (August 16th)

Richelle did a twitter Q&A today with @VAOfficialMovie answering some burning fan questions about the trailer, cast, movie, etc. She had plenty of interesting things to say. See below!

Q: Is Rose really using a stake in the trailer? I've heard it might be a knife, but no one's been able to tell.

A: It's one of those things you're just going to have to watch the movie for! Don't worry, no major plot changes.

Q: 6 yrs ago VA was released...did you ever think you book would 1 day be a movie?

A: Authors hope that, but no one ever knows. It's not easy getting a book to a movie, let alone succeeding!

Q: I loved the teaser and have a few questions..Why Mia short hair? I remember that I wrote about @GayleTweets8 wig..

A: Sometimes actors look better if there's a slight variation from the book. If it doesn't affect plot I have no prob.

Q: U knew #vafamily was huge, but did U expect the request for the teaser trailer to dominate twitter the way it did? ~Lisa

A: You guys are the best, and your support is what's gotten us here. Nothing surprises me!

Q: Was it hard to choose which scenes would be the best to show in the trailer to the fans?

A: I didn't make those choices, but I think the editors who did did a fabulous job.

Q: Which is your favourite book out of the whole Vampire Academy series and why?:)

A: Of the first VA series, Shadow Kiss b/c it's so emotional. In Bloodlines, it's Fiery Heart.

Q: What is your best memory from being on set in London?

A: Seeing how much the cast and crew loved their job. Seriously, that means so much to me, that my book brought joy.

Q: Could you say what scene the motorbike blows up in? Is it added to a scene that was from the book?

A: Can't give details, but it's a variation on a scene that's pretty much straight from the book, no worries.

Q: The're is a lot of teeth showing in the trailer is this though the whole film? It seems to go against the character of Lissa.

A: The trailer is highly edited for a target audience,so my guess is they made that 1 minute pretty teeth heavy.

Q: What part of the trailer did you prefer?

A: Fave part is Rose & Dimitri training. Such a HUGE part of the book, and they did it beautifully in the movie.

Q: Did Danila get to read the Dimitri POV of "the meeting scene" before filming it?

A: I wrote that scene long after filming wrapped up, so no.

Q: What is the one scene you are most looking forward to seeing next year?

A: A classroom scene I saw filmed in London that was getting special effects added. Can't wait to see finished result!

Q: You're going to Russia?) you have a lot of fans here)

A: I'd love to visit but can't do much international travel for a bit b/c of young children. But I <3 my Russian fans.

Q: Do you believe that the trailer will attract new people that will want o watch the movie and read the books?

A: We hope so! VA is so complex, and this was just step 1 of helping to show people what this story's all about.

Q: Is Tatiana nice to Lissa in the movie unlike book where she is horrible? Story behind Lissa's speech?

A: Can't give away what happens! :) Just gotta keep saying that though there are small changes, it mostly stays true.

Q: Have you watched the movie yet?? What are your thoughts about the movie?? Satisfied? So curious!

A: It's not done. It's like a book, they have TONS of material that'll take months to edit & put together into awesomeness. Making a movie is a long process! That editing takes longer than the actual filming.

Q: Will be Rose the one killing Natalie in the movie and not Dimitri?

A: Watch the movie and find out.

Q: Could you tell us why a British accent was chosen for Lissa? I like it

A: Dominic has his original accent too. Idea was that some Moroi who grew up so cut off from human society might still have slight European accents vs. American ones since they aren't out in the world much.

Q: Is the cast as excited about the movie as we are??
A: Maybe even more so. They worked SO HARD. Filming is a grueling process, long nights, 6 days a week

Q: Who is designer of a dresses for characters? Especially DUSTER???
A: I hope @OfficialVAMovie or @WeinsteinFilms can help me out. I met her, and she was wonderful, but I can't find her name. She did costumes for Golden Compass too and is so sweet and soooo talented.

Q: Do any of the liberties that were taken with the movie change any major plot lines or veer so far of the path?
A: Not for me. Every plot point important to me is still in there. Are there embellishments? Yes but it happens w/film.

Q: Is there anything in the movie that you wished you put in the book or vice versa?
A: Daniel Waters wrote some pretty funny lines I wouldn't have minded using.

Q:  Richelle is the movie going how you would have planned or is there anything you would change?
A: Everything's going great. The hardest part now is advertising it to the world to see how amazing it is.

Q: What genre will #vamovie be categorized in? Comedy perhaps?
A: That's VERY tricky, and I don't know b/c VA crosses a lot of genres.

Q: Which actor do you think surprised you the most during the filming of the VA movie?
A: They all surprised me just in how well they understood the characters. Didn't expect them to get into it so much. <3

Q: Are all of the books being made into movies? I hope so!
A: It'll depend on the first movie's success.

Q: I know all the important scenes are in the movie, but is there any scene that didn't make it in but you wish did?
A: Not that I can think of off the top of my head. It's been a while since I read the script!

Q: We loved the tracks on the trailer! Are there any artists/bands/songs that you'd like to see on the soundtrack?
A: Probably best I have no say in the soundtrack...everything I listen to is from before 1999.

Q: You/your movies need a makeup artist? Dervampirtony from livejournal, remember me & @CourtHagan from Philly?!
A: They've finished filming and had makeup artists then, but thanks! :) And yes, I remember our bookstore hangout

Q: What do you think we can expect from future trailers/promotional footage?
A: I'm hoping you'll get to see scenes acted out, dialogue, things slowed. Teaser''s a sampler, like a rock video

Q: This isn't VA movie related but how's pregnancy part 2 going?
A: Exhausting! And there are lots of nachos involved

Q: Will we eventually find out who Dimitri's father is? And if not, could you tell us now?
A: I'm going to keep that filed away for now. Maybe someday.

Q: Are we going to get the story of Rose under the desk in the next trailers or do we have to wait?
A: I have a feeling you may be waiting. :) Don't worry, it's not nearly as crazy as what people seem to think!

Q: Do you think the VA movie will be as big as other YA series like twilight and harry potter?
A: We'd love it, but it depends on our current fans and new ones! Fingers crossed. I don't know.

Q: Did you get a pair of those awesome fangs when you visited the #vamovie set?
A: They weren't using them the day I was there. They only had them for a few scenes, I think.

Q: Were you scared that the movie wouldn't be a lot like the book?
A: Of course, it's a risk authors take. We give rights to the moviemakers, but fortunately, this team has stayed true

Q: Are there a lot things changed from the book to the movie?
A: There are lots of little changes, but nothing that affects the major plot points. Things have to be altered book>film. I'm easygoing, and I saw no change that bothered me. Hope you guys are cool with it all too.

Q: You've given nothing but praise to the cast. Who do you think is most like their character?
A: Probably Zoey. She's a lot of fun and has a lot of spirit but is also very caring.

Q: I understand visuals are a huge part of VA. Did you have any say in any of the changed scenes?
A: I was asked my opinion on a few things, but most was in their hands, which I'm fine with. They were very respectful.

Q: When will the official trailer come out?
A: I don't know. That's in the hands of the studio and distributor.

Q: Richelle, what did you think about the music choices for the trailer?
A: I didn't know the songs, but they worked for me!

Q: We would love to know how they came to the conclusion that Natalie had to wear glasses, seeing as she's a Moroi.
A: Moroi in general have better vision than humans, but like us, not everyone's perfect. It works & she looks adorable.

Q: Can you tell us at least one line from the movie that we haven't heard from the trailer?
A: No, sorry. I can't give away things! :) Just wait, good things are coming.

Q: Will there be snow in the film? I think I already know the answer, but still..
A: I can't say for 100% sure, but I don't think so. I hope they make Frostbite and go to some ski slopes, though.

Q: Richelle, were you involved in picking the cast & what did you think of the choices and the trailer?
A: I wasn't involved in casting but think they made smart, fab choices. It's easy to look at a pic and think that looks like a character. MUCH harder to find someone who can act like that character. They did it.

Q: Have you seen any extended footage from the lust charm scene?
A: I haven't! All I've seen is what's in the trailer.

Q: Do you have any plans on creating a Spin-off of Dimitri's perspective on Shadow Kiss?
A: At the moment, I have no other plans to do Dimitri's POV. We're going to leave him a mystery.

Q: Everyone said Dimitri was the funniest guy on the set. You've met him on the sets. Is it true??
A: We didn't talk long, but he def seems like he has a great sense of humor and he's a perfect gentleman too.

Q: Why doesn't anybody promote the movie in Romania??? It wouldn't be any movie without our traditions and stories!
A: We need a Romanian company for that, so hopefully one will come forward!

Q: What can you tell us about how Rose "slipping" into Lissa's head is done in the #VAMovie?
A: All I can say is that it happens..but as to the how, you'll just have to see. It was very important to Mark Waters.

Q: Is the frostbite script already written? If the movie is a hit will it take long before frostbite is shot
A: No Frostbite script yet, and I don't know how long until they could start. Hopefully soon.

Q: What other changes in the movie were you able to voice your opinions, such as with adding uniforms?
A: They asked my opinion on the school's crest/symbols, and I suggested elements.

Q: What scenes from the trailer was the most time consuming to shoot?
A: I don't know for sure since I only saw 2 days of filming, but I'm guessing special effects and stunts.

Q: Which scene from the teaser trailer made you fangirl and which one made you teary-eyed?

Q: Is there an approximate release date for Gamboard of the Gods book 2?
A: I think summer next year. :) Title will be announced soon.

Q: Lissa sounds like a much stronger character and funnier too than I remember. How do you feel about that?
A: I always thought she was funny and strong. :) Lucy really got into her and does a fab rendition.

Q: Are there any scenes you think might not translate well to other audiences like it would the fans?
A: They did a good job making movie open to new people, but those who've read books will always have the edge in details.

Q: Where will the premiere be for VA??
A: I don't know. It's out of my hands. :) I'm sure there'll be one in Hollywood, not sure where else.

Q: i love all the cast, however i have one concern and i wonder what's your opinion on it... Dimitris (Danila) height?
A: Totally fine. He IS Dimitri in acting, and that's worth more to me than being exactly the book height.

Q: Will we ever see Bloodlines come to our screens too?
A: That's a long ways away! It'll all depend on how this first VA movie does and if we can make more.

Q: Do u know who will play Adrian? He's the most wondering character to me?
A: No one's even close to working on book 2. :) We gotta get this one off first!

Q: Do Zoey and danila have the same chemistry you imagined Rose and Dimitri to have?
A: On screen, yes. Off screen, they're very close too, like siblings. I love how well everyone gets along.

Q: if VA does not do well enough in box theater (but it will!) & there will not be a 2nd movie, how would you feel?
A: It's the chance you take in this industry! We knew that going in. No guarantees in books or movies.

Q: What do you think about Danila's English? Was it hard for him to speak in English every time?
A: His English was perfect to me, with just the right amount of Russian accent.
