Valentine's Day POPsessions: 'Vampire Academy's' Dominic Sherwood Is a Lover With a 'Lion King' Tattoo

Christian Ozera might be the bad boy romantic lead of "Vampire Academy," the guy who's brooding and quite likely to burn your fingers with his mean fire powers, but the man behind him, actor Dominic Sherwood, is all lover.

For starters, he describes the passionate "Vampire Academy" fanbase with some of the warmest fuzzies of any actor in a young adult book-based franchise we've ever met: "It's really lovely to see that human spirit on a very deep level and that unity of all these people coming together for one cause," he told Yahoo Movies. "I started realize these people, they really care about us and they really care about what we're doing.

"And we, in turn, end up really caring about them because they're so supportive."

1. What's your favorite movie to watch on a lonely Valentine's Day?
Why are you assuming I'm going to have a lonely Valentine's Day?! I may never have had a lonely Valentine's Day. I watch Disney movies. There! Are you happy? "Peter Pan" is one of my absolute favorites. I wish I was Peter Pan so much. And "Aladdin" and "The Lion King." I have a "Lion King" tattoo – that's how much I love "The Lion King." It's on the inside of my left leg and it's Rafiki's staff. You remember the really old stick that has the fruit at the top? That's what it is.

2. Who was your first screen crush?
I had a crush on Hilary Duff. "Lizzie McGuire" is exactly where it came from.

3. What's the most romantic moment in movie history?
That's gotta be "Romeo and Juliet," the balcony scene. "If I were a glove upon that hand," all that stuff.

Tour St. Vladimir's With 'Vampire Academy' Director Mark Waters

'Vampire Academy' Director Mark Waters shared exclusive St. Vladimir pictures with Yahoo! Movies and talked a bit about the process of picking the locations for the movies signature scenes! See all the pictures below as well as an excerpt of his Interview.

"A large part of directing is about taking the mental images that form when you read a piece of material, and then finding or building something in the real world that matches that vision. Certainly when I read "Vampire Academy" I had a very distinct picture in my brain of Richelle Mead's description of St. Vladimir’s, and I knew our first step in making the movie would be finding the real world place that could be our school.

We searched all around the world, first checking out the older prep schools and colleges in New England, then searching around Czechoslovakia, seeing many old estates and castles. Then we drove from Edinburgh, Scotland, down through the whole of the U.K. And just about an hour southwest of London, we finally arrived at the Charterhouse School. As soon as I saw the front courtyard I had that exhilirating feeling of everything locking into place. This school was not just my mental image of St. Vladimir's… it was better.

Luckily enough the school agreed to let us shoot there during their vacation breaks, and the look and feel of the school really defined the whole look and feeling of the film. The juxtaposition of the 1800's architecture with modern technology and modern teenagers is something that I think gives our movie a real distinctiveness."

"This is the church attic where Lissa and Christian first meet up, then slowly see their attraction grow.  It is a set we built on stage at Pinewood Studios, with the whole style of it pulled from the style of Charterhouse School so it blends right in.  We tried to give it a comfortable "lounge" feeling, even though it's a reading room in a church attic, like Christian and Lissa had turned it into their secret clubhouse."

Richelle Mead Shares Exclusive Pics from ‘Vampire Academy’ Set with Yahoo! Movies

"The cast was so friendly and outgoing, and within 15 minutes of me arriving, nearly all of them stopped by to say hello and introduce themselves," Mead said as she described the photos from her visit which she shared with Yahoo! Movies exclusively. "The picture of me with Zoey and Cameron [Monaghan] was taken on the first day of my set visit. They were filming in a university lecture hall, and I got to take a seat right there with the students."

"[This] photo was taken on the last day of my two-day visit," she recalled. "I didn't actually believe they'd have a chair for me since my visit was so short, but they did! It took a fair amount of searching for it (and all the other cast chairs) because the crew moved around filming that day and kept taking the chairs with them," she explained. "Finding this reward at the end of our 'scavenger hunt' was definitely worth it though."

Silver Stakes and More: ‘Vampire Academy’ Screenwriter Will Ease Your Mind on 5 Big Differences

Yes, Rose has a silver stake. Don't freak out.

When the 60-second teaser trailer for "Vampire Academy" premiered here on Yahoo Movies, fans got a bit nervous. Despite its sassy voiceover and quick cuts, eagle eyes caught onto some key moments that didn't quite mesh with the first book in Richelle Mead's bestselling series about a pair of teen vampire BFFs.

We get it … and so do the film's screenwriter, Dan Waters, and his brother Mark, who's directing it. And they want to make you happy.

"I have always had an attitude from the beginning that I would listen to fans and respect the fans, but not be their bitch," Dan told Yahoo Movies. "At some point, I know a little more about turning a book into a movie. I'm not one of these people who just take a paycheck and do anything, who just take the title and go with it. I'm adapting 'Vampire Academy' because I love 'Vampire Academy.'"

Before we get into Dan's explanation of some of his changes, here's one thing he didn't change that he totally wanted to: the title.

"I'm not crazy about the title — it's hard to tell the title to your adult friends," he confessed. "It sounds like Saturday morning cartoons … It just seems so kiddie. But it's so much more than that, obviously."

1. Rose has the silver stake. In the books, heroine and protector Rose Hathaway doesn't get her hands on the coveted Guardian weapon until the second book, but the trailer shows her clutching one. Dan's excuse? He wants to be able to make a second movie! "I'm sorry, I had to do it to make it interesting," he said. "When you are writing five books, you can move things at a deliberate pace. I think that without a great first movie, there is no second one." That's a fair reason, right?
